Top 5 Mistakes to Avoid When Applying Gel Nail Stickers

Heyhae semi-cured gel nail stickers are an easy and stylish way to achieve salon-quality nails at home. But to get long-lasting, flawless results, it’s crucial to avoid a few common mistakes. Whether you’re new to gel nail strips or looking to perfect your application, here are the top 5 mistakes to avoid when applying Heyhae sun-cured gel nail strips—plus tips to make your manicure last!

1. Applying Cuticle Oil Right Before Gel Nail Strips

Cuticle oil is great for nail health—but not right before applying any gel nail stickers. Oils can create a slippery barrier that prevents proper adhesion, causing your sticker to lift prematurely. Always apply cuticle oil after your nails are fully done and cured, not before.

Pro Tip: Thoroughly your nails with alcohol wipes before application to ensure a clean, oil-free surface.

2. Not Curing Properly

Curing your gel nail sticker is a must for durability, a strong finish, and long lasting shine. If curing with an LED lamp, note that using a low-powered UV lamp or curing for too short a time can lead to peeling or soft strips. Make sure your lamp has the right wattage (at least 6W–12W for most semi-cured nail strips) and cure each nail for the recommended time.

3. Choosing the Wrong Size

Size matters—especially with gel nail stickers. A strip that’s too big can overlap onto your skin or cuticle and lead to lifting. One that’s too small leaves edges exposed. If you’re in between sizes, always size down slightly for a snug fit. You can slightly stretch your nail stickers outwards to fully fit your nail shape.

Quick Fix: If your nail strip is a hair too big, use small scissors or a nail clipper to slightly trim the strip if needed.

4. Applying Over Wet or Damp Nails

Moisture is the enemy of adhesion. Applying wraps over wet or damp nails traps water underneath, weakening the bond and encouraging air bubbles or lifting. Always dry your hands thoroughly before starting and avoid humid environments.

Best Practice: Wash hands, dry thoroughly, and wait a few minutes before applying.

5. Filing Poorly After Curing

Improper filing can damage the edges of your Heyhae gel nail strips and lead to peeling or snagging. Rough, aggressive filing after curing may chip the cured nail strip as well. File gently in an up and down motion after curing to seal the edge.

Recommended: Use a fine-grit nail file and go slowly to shape and smooth without tearing the strip.
